The serial numbers on equipment manufactured by the Roland Corporation tell you the month and year the device rolled off the production line, and how many of that model had been produced. The scheme results in a six digit number that breaks down as follows.
Boss Chorus Ce-2 Serial Numbers Lookup
The first two digits are the month of manufacture, where month 01 was September 1972. The remaining four digits indicate how many of that model had been produced.
So someone somewhere may have a TR-77 (Roland's first model) with either serial number 010001 or 000001 depending on whether Roland started counting production months from one or zero. In November 1980, the two digit production month number wrapped around to zero, and then ran up until 1989. Roland then introduced a new format for their serial numbers.791980Jan-667890Feb-677991Mar-688092Apr-698193May-708294Jun-718395Jul-728496Aug61738597Sep62748698Oct63758799Nov64768800Dec65778901Based on this serial number format my older Roland equipment is dated:.
Roland JP-4, serial number 135510, 5510th one made and manufactured in December 1981. Boss DR-55, serial number 093700, 3700th one made and manufactured in August 1981.
No, afraid not.First off, those numbers refer to batches, not individual pedals, so his CE-2 isn't actually 'pedal #0000' but rather from the group of pedals marked 0000.Also, the 0000 doesn't mean it was the first ever batch, just that particular date ended up forming the batch number 0000.For example:0200 = Jan 19810100 = Dec 19800000 = Nov 19809900 = Oct 19809800 = Sep 19809700 = Aug 1980and so on.The first batch of CE-2s were apparently built in October 1979, so they would have the serial number 8700. This actually got me wondering about some of my old Boss pedals.
