Muramatsu Flute Serial Numbers
Valerie of Muramatsu America is tremendously helpful and a joy to deal with.I asked her your question and this is her reply: I 'm sure she doesn't mind me sharing it here.Dear Regina,The only Muramatsu models that list their model name are the EX and GX models. The first generation have EX/GX followed by a three or four digit serial number engraved on the rib near the first post. (EX123, etc). The second and third generation EX and GX models are engraved on the back of the neck of the body.It will read 'EXll 12345' or 'EXlll 12345' (or GXll 12345, GXlll 12345). So basically, the second generation have the model with Roman numeral ll,followed by a five digit serial number. The third generation will have the model with Roman numeral lll.All of the other models, ST, DN, AD, DS, SR, Alto,Platinum Clad, and Gold all have a five digit serial number engraved on the front of theneck of the body. Based on the serial number and features of the flute, we can determine the model. These models are not engraved withtheir name. The word silver appears on the rib if the flute is silver.Addressing your follow up question, what you are seeing on the foot joint would be GX, followed by two digits, which would bethe last two digits of the serial number found on the back of the neck of the body. So, if your serial number reads: GXlll 12345,the stamp on the foot joint would be GX 45.If you have any questions regarding a model, or need help to identify something, send a photo of the flute, showing the serial numberand we will try to help you out.Best regards,Valerie.
